LAYING UP OF COLOURS 3rd BATTALION MERCIAN REGIMENT (STAFFORDS)
SATURDAY 13th JANUARY 2018

1.  On Saturday 13th January 2018 the Colours of the 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Staffords) will be officially Laid Up in Lichfield Cathedral, it is hoped that many serving personnel and veterans can attend this key Regimental event.  


2.  Dress.  Serving Officers and Soldiers; Service Dress with Medals.  Veterans are requested to wear their Regimental Tie and appropriate attire for the occasion.

The Kings Head has been ‘warned off’ to cater for a ‘large group’ of serving & veteran personnel

 
4.  Veterans wishing to take part in the March Past are requested to indicate this on the return below.  

5.  On arrival, guests are required to make their way to the Cathedral main entrance, please bring your ticket and present it to the RHQ staff who will direct you to your seating area.  

6.  All guests are requested to vacate the Cathedral quickly and quietly on completion of the Service, however the Kings Head Pub which is run by the Staffordshire Regimental Association is a short 10 minute walk away on Bird Street should you wish to meet up with friends.  

7.  Car Parking.  There are a number of Car Parks within a 10-15  minute walk to the Cathedral,  a selection are below but please check costs and any restrictions on arrival:  

The closest Car Park to the Cathedral is Bird Street car park, SATNAV postcode WS13 6AB.  Charges are £1 per Hour but are free after 6:30PM until 7:30AM the following morning.  

b.    Sandford Street Car Park is a long stay car park SATNAV postcode WS13 6TU.  Charges are £2.10 for 4 Hours but are free after 6:30PM until 7:30AM the following morning.  

c.    The Friary Car Park, Friary Street SATNAV postcode WS13 6QE is a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral and is £2.10 for 2 Hours. Note you will be required to pay extra for time parked, but the site is monitored by CCTV.

  8.  Accommodation.  There are several hotels which can be booked if individuals wish to stay prior to, or after, the event.  For best prices it is recommended to use one of the comparison web sites.  Some suggested hotel accommodation:  

a.    The George Hotel, 12-14 Bird Street Lichfield, WS13 6PR, telephone, 0844 387 6205. This is directly opposite the Kings Head Pub and is a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral.  

b.    The Premier Inn Lichfield, Beacon Park, Swan Road, Lichfield, WS13 6QZ, telephone 0871 527 9440.  

c.    The Cathedral Hotel 62 Beacon Street, Lichfield, WS13 7AR, telephone 01543 414500. This is the nearest Hotel to the Cathedral (about a 5 minute walk).

 9.  Administration.  Please pass this information forward to any Mercian personnel serving outside the Battalion who would be interested in attending, wives, partners and children are also very welcome to attend the Cathedral service.  Serving personnel returns (requesting tickets) should be sent to Andy Manktelow, RHQ Chester at:  This email address is being protected from spambots. 10.  It is requested that the large veteran community pass on this information to their friends who have served and who might wish to attend.  Veteran returns (requesting tickets) should be sent to Mrs Helen Rayson at RHQ Lichfield at:

11.  It is RHQs intention to reserve sections of seating for serving personnel and veterans. There will also be ‘blocks’ of un-allocated seating in the Cathedral for the general public or those without reserved tickets.
